~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Champ
We adopted our boy Champ in April of 2010. When we adopted him we had one child at the time as well as a yellow lab. Champ instantly became a big part of our family and remained so even as our family grew with 2 more children. Even when our yellow lab Marty passed on and we welcome a chocolate lab named Ozzie to our family, Champ was always our gentle giant, always friendly and welcoming. Champ loved going on our family walks at the park. Recently Champ started having trouble with his back leg and last week he wouldn't put it down. We took him to the vet and found out he had bone cancer. We brought Champ home but after reading up on it we knew the best thing to do for a dog who showed us so much is to show him how much we loved him and would never want him to suffer just so we could have for a few more weeks. We let Champ move on August 21, 2018. We had Champ for 8 wonderful years and he had just turned 11 in July. We as a family miss him very much, especially his little brother Ozzie.
Bentley (5/08-7/18)
Bentley came into our lives October 2010. He unexpectedly passed away on July 14, 2018. While he did have leg problems almost all his life, he was a fighter. He loved going for walks, hanging out by the bay, and spending time with his sister, Maggie (also adopted through GFNJ). When we first saw Bentley at GFNJ, we knew he was the one! Our other Grey, Maggie, was with us and she took to him right away! I believe he was the biggest greyhound there and that we have ever seen! He was such a Handsome boy. We will never ever forget Bentley, but always remember the good times we had with him. He was a great dog! Love you Bentley!
Juli
Juli was a sweetheart, the best grey and the cutest personality you could ever ask for. I will love her forever and miss her so much. She was stoic and tolerated everything and anything. She loved all dogs and people. Now she is at peace at Rainbow Bridge. She lived a long life.....5/5/05 - 2/20/18. Thanks to GFNJ....I will be looking for my next grey soon.
B.F. Dazz, 10/15/10-1/9/18
On December 13, 2014, we joined the wonderful world of greyhounds. A month prior, we attended Greyhound Friends Adoption Day and met Dazz. She was a bit timid and standoffish, but before we left, she graced me with her kisses and claimed her piece of my heart. So we took the plunge and Dazz became a member of our family. Such a sweet and beautiful girl, graceful and gentle, she carved her niche in our lives and our hearts. And as the saying goes, “you can’t have just one”, in 2016 Dazz became a big sister to our boy Jesse. She ruled the roost graciously and showed him the ropes of family living. He happily followed her lead and quickly adapted to being a part of our family.
January 9, 2018, with heavy hearts, we had to let Dazz cross the bridge unexpectedly. She left us much too soon and we are heartbroken. She is sorely missed and forever loved.
Evelyn (Easter Snow)
Evelyn (Easter Snow) Crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge on November 16, 2017
You were my favorite hello and my hardest goodbye… Your time with us was too short, but the time we did have together was filled with all great things, love and happiness.
You will always be remembered as the beautiful little girl who brightened our lives. You took a piece of my heart with you. Until we meet again, run free...
