~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Martha's Vineyard
Martha's Vineyard 12/25/10 - 6/12/19 (a Christmas puppy)
On 3/17/13 I went to an adoption looking to foster/adopt another older male after losing my beloved Flashy Daddy but when I got there Martha had other ideas. She was immediately by my side for the entire two hours and of course I took her home as a foster. I made it very clear that I had no intention of adopting a young female. Lol, I adopted her in May.
She was quick to learn but stairs took a lot of practice and patience. Although she never mastered getting down, she managed in her own unique way which was quite a funny site to see.
About a year after adopting her we both began to have health issues. Through 4 surgeries of my own she was always by my side and I know now that there was a bigger meaning to why she chose me on that St. Patrick's Day in 2013. I thank God everyday for bringing us together. Even through her own health issues she became well known at the middle school where I substitute teach and became the mascot. She would go over everyday after school and greet the kids during after school activities. This year she was in the yearbook's group picture with the girl's soccer team wearing their team shirt. She loved interacting with the special needs students also.
Sadly, in June, Martha went into liver failure and I had to make a decision to let her go at only 8 years old. She passed peacefully curled up in my arms. A couple of days later there was a double rainbow. Although I only had Martha for 6.5 years, I can't imagine what life would have been like without her. She was a loved member of my family and we are all heartbroken with her passing.
"Martha My Dear" (Beatles), you will never be forgotten and will always hold a special place in my heart.
Vodka Tonic
We had to say goodbye to out beloved friend and family member Vodka Tonic.
We adopted Vodka eight years ago after fostering her. She was a very sweet girl, only asking to place her head on a lap for a few minutes of petting. She loved her daily walks and running the fence line with the neighbor dog.
She will be missed by her canine brother Turbo and sister Lily and her human family, Katie, Charlene, Jim and her Aunt Chris. Love you Vod.
PNP's Steffy
In July 2007 we adopted our second Grey from Greyhound Friends of New Jersey; a, just three year old, female named PNP's Steffy.
Regrettably, we had to let her 'cross the rainbow bridge" yesterday morning. Her hips had gotten to the point that she had severe difficulty in getting up and laying back down unassisted and our vet did not see any improvement in her future so, just a little shy of her 15th birthday, we lost one of the sweetest dogs we ever had.
During the twelve years she lived with us she had numerous cat and dogs for companions as we foster for both a dog and a cat rescue (as well as our own Shepherd and cats).
We live on 5 acres so Steffy had the chance to stretch her legs when she was in the mood and one of her greatest joy always was when we fostered a dog that would run with her (her permanent companion; our other dog ,a German Shepherd, had long since thrown in the towel in the running game). By just being herself she has helped many an abused or stray dog acclimatize to being a house pet.
She was initially very shy and it took her a long time to get over that but, in the end, she was a fantastic dog that will be greatly missed.
Thank you for having given us the opportunity to have had her in our lives.
Rascal (aka Algoa Walkaway)
Our beloved Rascal went over the rainbow bridge on March 11, he was 10 years young and we are heartbroken . We want to adopt other male for our sweet Gingersnap (aka track name Flying Redstripe) who is 7 years young and misses her constant companion
Bacall
On October 3, 2018 we said goodbye to our sweet little clown dog Bacall. She became seriously ill very quickly and with the help of Lap of Love we were able to give her a dignified and peaceful farewell in our home. We are devastated but so very grateful for the many years we had the privilege of caring for this wonderful animal. She lives on in the beautiful memories embedded in our hearts.
Bacall came into our family to be a sister to Bogie, just because we didn’t want him to be an only dog. She was a graduate of the prison program and adapted easily to our family life. She was a silly little girl. Her “brother” Bogie wasn’t quite sure about the new addition at first, but she won him over and helped Bogie become more outgoing and learn to play. Bacall was called the Brindle Bullet as she sped around our fenced yard and she liked to “buzz” anyone who was standing in the yard just to see how close she could get. After we lost Bogie to bone cancer, Bacall was a great comfort and continued to make us smile with her antics. But she was clearly missing her doggie companion so we adopted Brody in 2014. They very quickly became best friends and loved to run together and play together both indoors and out. One of Bacall’s favorite things was to stand very still beside a shrub or patio chair and as Brody ran by she would jump out and chase him. Every time we see Brody run we’ll also be seeing our beautiful girl right behind him.
