About Agnus

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Color: Brindle

Agnus whose call name is "Dixie" is a very pretty, little darkish brindle girl.  She's very friendly and loves affection as she buries her head into your lap.  She's inquisitive and was curious about her new surroundings.  She's calm and walks nicely on leash.  Little Agnus or "Dixie" is 3 years old and cat workable in that she is very curious about the cats.
Foster Update 3/12/2015

Dixie may very well be the tiniest greyhound I've ever seen - sometimes, we're tempted to call her "Pixie," though my youngest son calls her "Mrs. Peanut" sometimes.  This adorable, dark brindle girl has been an absolute pleasure to host in our foster home.   Dixie is 3 years old (born July 20, 2011).  She walks perfectly on a leash and also enjoys playing with our greyhounds and our other foster greyhound in our fenced backyard.  Being a Florida girl, we loved seeing her first snow through her eyes - she was beside herself with glee playing in it.

Dixie shares her foster home with our two dog-friendly children, ages 9 and 13.  She does well with the children.  We have three cats; Dixie has been curious about them and we are working with her on leaving them be.  The dogs in the house have three distinct personalities (the suave sophisticate, the bull in a China shop and the in-charge woman) - she gets along with all three. We suspect it is because she is so laid back and happy - if she were a person, I'd describe her as a perpetual optimist.   Of the many fosters we've had, she is the only one to notice that there is a 30 gallon fish tank in the house. She sits dog-style (rare for greyhounds) on a dog bed in front of the fish tank, unwavering in her study of the fish as they go about their peaceful lives in the tank.  It seems Dixie is a Zen-practicing girl.

Dixie has been a well-mannered house guest.  She has had no accidents in the house.  Both adults in the home work outside the home full-time; she is crated while we are at work. Dixie has had no issues with her crate.  As we have security cameras set up around the house, we tune in to remotely and watch her when we're at work.  When she's not sleeping, she's changing sleeping position. At night, she sleeps on a dog bed next to our bed.  She has mastered the stairs, along with walking on our wood, tile, and laminate flooring.

A striking girl, Dixie has a beautiful, dark brindle coat with a touch of red. She is very curious, evidence of her intelligence.  She has been learning not to "counter surf" and to eat a bit faster - lest another hound will opt to finish her meals for her.

We feel that Dixie will do well as either an only dog, with a companion dog  - or a few.  She is highly affectionate - her favorite things are to give/get hugs, doggie massages and pettings. If you are looking for a loving, petite greyhound that will deliver daily smiles and warmth, than Dixie is your girl.  Her charm is complemented by her happy disposition.
